Sales of the new rally-born Toyota GR Yaris take off - despite the lockdown

Stay at home, don’t meet up with other households…right now you can’t even pop down to your local SLM Toyota dealer to take a test drive. All we can do is stare forlornly through the living room window at the car in the driveway and cast our minds back to the last time we got behind the wheel for more than a short distance.

Launching a pure performance hatchback in late 2020 as the country headed for Lockdown 2 was never going to be smooth driving, but sales of the Toyota GR Yaris are accelerating faster than its own exhilarating 0 to 62mph in 5.5 seconds.

Developed at the renowned Motomachi factory in collaboration with Toyota Gazoo Racing after their 2018 World Rally Championship title win, the new inline 3-cylinder 1.6 turbo engine and unique, aerodynamic body design is proving a thrilling choice; here at SLM Toyota we’ve already clocked up 44 orders.

Perhaps it’s because of the GR Yaris’ dynamic performance, precision handling and distinctive appearance - it wouldn’t look out of place hurtling down the gravel tracks of a Finnish forest - or simply the fact that it’s fun to drive, but hot hatch fans have been gripped by the prospect of experiencing that sports car feeling, every day.
